The State of Rights
 |
Human Rights are Aussie Rules
The Charter Group and The Justice Project Inc. supported the adoption of a Charter of Rights for Victoria in the belief that it will guarantee the recognition and protection of the human rights of all Victorians. |
The protection of freedoms of thought, expression, religion and belief; the rights to non-discrimination and equality before the law; and the right to participate equally and actively in the political life of the Victorian community are fundamental.
They are basic to Australia's tradition of providing everyone with a fair go. These rights need to be above politics. A Charter would make them so. A Charter would also bring us into line with every other Western country.
Australia is the only country without such legal documentation.
