Mandatory Detention Campaign PDF Print E-mail

During late 2005 and 2006 The Justice Project continued its campaign against mandatory detention and related issues. The Cornelia Rau and Vivian Alvarez affairs showed that mandatory detention in all its forms is a completely flawed and discredited policy. We called for a Royal Commission into mandatory detention, viewed with alarm plans for a new detention facility at Christmas Island and supported Liberal backbencher Petro Georgiou MP and colleagues in their proposed introduction of two Private Member's Bills intended to address Australia's mandatory detention policy. bigv.jpgFrom June to November 2005 the Victorian State Government conducted a community consultation regarding introducing legislation for a Charter or Bill of Human Rights.

The Justice Project, in conjunction with The Charter Group, worked actively to supportthis consultation. The Charter was intended to guarantee the recognition and protection of the human rights of all Victorians.

Federal Election Campaign 2004 PDF Print E-mail

The Justice Project came into being at the start 2004 federal election campaign. Founding members of TJP shared concerns regarding Australia's stance regarding asylum seeker and refugee issues.
