ALP promised feedback from Jaga Jaga Forum PDF Print E-mail

During the recent Jagajaga (Eltham) forum,  Jenny Macklin MP promised to provide responses to 2 questions asked from the floor.  She has responded to one of them (detainment of Sri Lankans on Nauru).  We are following up the other (whistleblowing).

As promised, we have posted the response.

The following response was received from Jenny Macklin MP as follow up to a question from the floor at the recent Jagajaga forum:

Hi

I am responding to your follow-up question from the Eltham Human Rights Forum of 9 October.

Durable solutions would be found for the Sri Lankan Tamils currently detained on Nauru, under a Labor Government.  Those found to be refugees would be brought to Australia and provided with permanent protection visas.  Those with ongoing claims would continue their processing on Christmas Island. The Sri Lankans would never have been sent to Nauru under Labor, and I again reiterate our opposition to the so-called Pacific Solution.

Thank you for your enquiry on this important issue.

Yours sincerely
Jenny Macklin MP
Federal Member for Jagajaga
Shadow Minister for Families and Community Services
Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation
