6. To restore the value of a fair go in Australian public life and policy. PDF Print E-mail

The Justice Project wants to see the restoration of Australia's international reputation as a country that respects and upholds human rights and gives all people a fair go.

We want to see the end of suspicion, fear, hostility and targeting of certain religious, ethnic or social groups. We want to see fairness in the law, and fairness in the execution of the law.  We want good, transparent, fair procedures in place to ensure that people are given all their rights under the law.  We want  Australia's international obligations to be respected in domestic practices, especially those regarding the self-assumed obligation to welcome asylum seekers.
  • We deplore the system of mandatory, indefinite detention for asylum seekers and their children.
  • We deplore the practise of detaining asylum seekers on tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean, keeping them far away from lawyers, courts,  friends, psychiatrists, community support, and the media.
  • We absolutely reject the government's constant claims that the current policy of mandatory, indefinite detention (including offshore detention) is in full compliance with international law.

The Justice Project believes that Australia can do better.  We want  to encourage Australians to demand more of their leaders.  To stand up and declare that we will not accept inhumane, illegal and immoral  behaviour being carried out on our behalf.

The Justice Project  stands up for a fair go for all people in Australia (and excised offshore places...)
